The History of SMC

1977

Sullivan and Merritt Inc were established by Mr. Peter Sullivan and Mr. John Merritt as an industrial general contractor providing quality construction services to the paper making industry and the power industry in the Northeast United States.

1995

Sullivan and Merritt, Inc. forms Electrical Division.

2006

Sullivan and Merritt Inc. was purchased by two project managers of the company, and Sullivan and Merritt Constructors, Inc. were established. Jon Lee and Lance Leavitt began to grow SMC into a well-known company that has a strong presence in the fields of power generation, process piping, instrumentation, boiler work, including general contractor and paper industry construction services.

2008

July: Sullivan and Merritt Constructors complete largest project to date, $15 million sawmill expansion

August: Sullivan and Merritt Corporation awarded first overseas contract, a large pipe fabrication project for a company in Abu Dhabi.

2024

Lucas Vanadestine and Douglas McDougal purchased the company which established Sullivan and Merritt Corporation. They are proud to be following in the footsteps of a 49-year-old tradition with a renewed vision of growth and vitality. Together, Lucas and Doug have a focused vision on supporting the current industrial and commercial markets that have been the backbone of success throughout the years but also look to the bright future of Industry in Maine and New England.
